Autism Strength Based Goal Phrasing
Use these examples when writing autism related treatment goals in a way that honors strengths, support needs, autonomy, communication style, sensory needs, and quality of life. Language should avoid framing neurodivergence as something to “fix.”

General Strength Based Goal Statements
- Client will increase self understanding by identifying strengths, support needs, preferences, and strategies that support daily functioning.
- Patient will build on existing strengths to improve emotional regulation, communication, routines, and self advocacy.
- Client will develop coping strategies that support sensory regulation, flexibility, and emotional well being.
