Purpose π―
Help clients gradually approach anxiety provoking situations through structured exposure planning.
Help clients build confidence through gradual exposure, realistic goal setting, and practicing approach behaviors instead of avoidance.
Letβs Talk About It π£οΈ
Create a ladder of anxiety-provoking situations from least difficult to most difficult.
For each step explore:
- What makes this situation uncomfortable?
- How much anxiety do you expect before trying it?
- What coping skills could help you complete the step?
- What would success look like?
Encourage the client to focus on progress rather than eliminating anxiety completely.
Ask:
- What is something anxiety has convinced you that you cannot do?
- What evidence shows you are more capable than anxiety suggests?
- What small step would build confidence this week?
If the Conversation Gets Stuck π‘
- What are you protecting yourself from by avoiding this?
- What would you attempt if anxiety was not making the decision?
- What would you tell someone else facing the same fear?
